The Vermilion County Health Department reported 148 new cases of COVID-19 late Monday…along with two additional COVID-related deaths.  County Health Administrator Douglas Toole says the latest to die are a woman in her 80s and a man in his 50s.  Vermilion County has lost 158 residents to COVID-related deaths since the pandemic began.

There are currently 28 Vermilion County residents who are hospitalized due to COVID.  And Toole adds there currently are 319 known active cases of COVID in the county.

Of the 148 new cases reported late Monday, 20 of them said they had already been fully vaccinated for protection from COVID.  As part of the interview process contract tracers from the Vermilion County Health Department ask each person who tested positive whether they are fully vaccinated from COVID-19.  Ten of the twenty-eight residents who are currently hospitalized had already been fully vaccinated.

Due to Vermilion County’s HIGH transmission status, it is recommended that everyone, despite vaccination, should wear a mask when indoors.

Toole says vaccinations save lives.  The Health Department is encouraging the community to get vaccinated, to get tested, to stay home when they are sick, and to wear face masks.

SHIELD ILLINOIS saliva COVID testing is still being offered at the Vermilion County Health Department every Wednesday.  The tests are administered from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Health Department office at 200 South College Street in Danville.  The test is free and no appointment is necessary, although they are recommended.
