Towering redwood trees. Stretches of scenic, rugged coastline. A cozy campsite near the picturesque Chetco River.
Our latest Peak Northwest excursion — a journey to the southern Oregon coast city of Brookings — had all the trappings of an excellent summer road trip.
We loaded up in Portland on a weekday morning, high-tailed it toward Brookings, made a few stops along the way and spent the night at Alfred A. Loeb State Park. We also got in a bit of hiking and sightseeing the next day before heading back home.
