CHARLOTTE — A deadly crash in south Charlotte caused disruptions and delays along the LYNX Blue Line early Tuesday.
The crash happened before 5:30 a.m. near the light rail tracks along South Boulevard at Hebron Street.
MEDIC and police told Channel 9 that two people were pronounced dead at the scene.
It wasn’t immediately clear how the light rail train was involved in the collision but Channel 9 crews could see crime scene tape around the train and several investigators with flashlights scouring the ground and tracks.

The city has a plan to eliminate traffic deaths, including those involving light rail trains, by the year 2030. In the past week alone, three people have lost their lives in the area.
Tuesday’s incident was the second deadly crash at the same crossing area in about a week after a train and car collided at the intersection last Monday.

The driver of that vehicle died after CMPD said he tried to drive around the crossing arms and ended up in the train’s path.
Tuesday’s collision had people like Lyft driver Cashundra Watson shook up.
“It’s scary,” she said. “Being on the road, especially for me being a Lyft driver, having others in my car -- my top priority is keeping them safe.”
Other neighbors told Channel 9 that the crossing arms are only down for about 30 seconds while the light rail trains pass. CATS said it conducts routine inspections on all their equipment.
Watson said that’s critical to keeping drivers and pedestrians safe.
“If it’s not working, then it puts a lot of people’s lives in danger,” she said.
CATS set up a temporary bus bridge between Interstate 485 and Arrowood Station.
