New bench swings installed along Concho River in San Angelo - Standard-Times

poloong.blogspot.com

Given all of the negativity in the world over the last few months, I can only hope that each of you are finding some means of calm and relaxation. If you are looking for a place to ease your stress, then I would highly recommend a nice walk along our beautiful Concho River or a trip to one of our wonderful parks here in San Angelo. Because of the COVID-19 issues, we continue to encourage proper hand sanitation and social distancing. Most of our sites offer plenty of space for everyone to enjoy.

The City Parks division staff members are constantly looking for ways to improve our parks. Over the years, we have added several amenities. Examples include a wonderful Expression Swing at Kid’s Kingdom (where an adult and child can sit face-to-face while swinging), hammock poles at Glenmore and Unidad Parks for folks to relax, unique art pieces for all to admire and enjoy, a new 25,000-gallon rain harvest tank at Kirby Park with signage encouraging water conservation practices, and the spacious sidewalks along the Red Arroyo.

Recently, Park’s staff installed two new bench swings along the Concho River. One was placed near the river at Glenmore Park and the other along Veteran’s Memorial Drive near the Beauregard Street bridge. These 4-foot, poly-coated, expanded metal bench swings have been a huge hit for many users in the past. Staff installed them in Unidad and Jaime Padron Parks several years ago. In 2018, two were placed in the Neff’s/Bart De Witt Park near the large fountain and in Santa Fe Park adjacent to the Abe Street walk-over bridge. Future plans are to include one of these bench swings in the renovation project of Brentwood Park.

We hope each of you can find ways to ease your stress. Our park systems are there for you to use and enjoy. Hopefully, these additional new bench swings can provide a means of relaxation for you while appreciating the scenic views of the Concho River. As we move forward in 2020, please be safe and remain healthy!
