MT. MORRIS TWP, MI – A 38-year-old woman is dead after her vehicle hit an embankment and tree before it burst into flames along Interstate 75 in Mt. Morris Township.
Officers with the Mt. Morris Township Police Department responded around 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 14 to the area of southbound I-75 just south of Pierson Road following a report of a single-vehicle crash.
Mt. Morris Township Police Chief Terence Green said the Rosedale woman, whose name has not been released, was headed south on I-75 when her Chrysler PT Cruiser left the west side of the roadway, hit the overpass embankment and then hit a tree.
The vehicle split into three different parts and caught on fire, Green said. Mt. Morris Township firefighters assisted with putting out the flames.
A witness was able to pull the woman from what remained of the vehicle, but she was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver was the only occupant in the vehicle, Green said.
He added it’s unclear what led to the fatal crash, which remains under investigation.
