During college summer break, I had one of the greatest adventures and learning experiences of my life. I traveled Europe and visited 22 countries over three months. And, because most international students had a student rail pass, and their itinerary was similar in that they wanted to see all the most popular European cities, it was almost inevitable that you would run into students you saw in one location, at another, many miles and countries away.
I spent a lot of time with students from all over the word, of difference cultures, races, ethnicities and genders. The hostels were filled with youthful exuberance and laughter. It was a time of cultural exchange and a realization that we are all pretty much the same. That traveling experience brought me this one point of enlightenment – when we all get along, it’s a beautiful thing.
