The Big 10 officially announced Thursday afternoon that the conference was switching to a conference-only schedule for all fall sports. Now it appears that they will have company.
Nicole Auerbach of The Athletic reported Thursday afternoon that the Pac-12 is expected to announce a conference-only schedule in the upcoming days that will mirror the Big 10’s schedule. This was succeeded by Stadium’s Brett McMurphy reporting that the ACC is expected to do the same, giving special assistant to pseudo-football member Notre Dame so it can get to the required number of games. It should be noted that Auerbach reported following McMurphy’s report that via her sources a definitive answer for the ACC is premature at this point. McMurphy responded by saying that there is no official decision at this time, but his source believes that it is the likely outcome based on the Big 10’s decision.
ACC football also expected to play conference-only games, sources told @Stadium. Last month, ACC commish John Swofford told @Stadium if Power 5 schools played conference-only schedules that ACC would assist Notre Dame with as many games as it needed

As we said yesterday (and really since July 1), it appears that the Ivy League once again led the charge of cancellation and schedule adjustment in the wake of increased cases of COVID-19. With now three Power 5 conferences expected to switch to conference-only scheduling, it seems like it’s going to be merely a matter of time before the Big 12 and SEC follow suit, and the Power 5 shifts to a completely conference-only schedule for the fall.
That is, of course, unless the pandemic gets so bad playing football becomes irresponsible.
