One person is dead and two have been hospitalized after divers attempted to rescue distressed swimmers from Lake Michigan along Milwaukee's McKinley Beach on Saturday evening.
Two people were pulled from the water by rescuers while a third had made it to shore prior to the arrival of emergency responders, according to Joel Rechlitz, acting deputy chief with the Milwaukee Fire Department.
Rechlitz said one person has since died and two have been hospitalized.
First responders were called to the scene at 6:30 p.m. for a report of two people in distress in the water, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office.
