The dunes along Surf Drive Beach received a boost in late April with the addition of some $25,000 worth of sand purchased by the town from the Lawrence-Lynch Corporation.
Seventy-seven truckloads of sand were put on the beach.
The sand was transported to multiple areas along Surf Drive and spread by department of public works loaders over a three-day period, Falmouth Harbormaster and Director of Marine and Environmental Services Gregg P. Fraser said.
The goal of the project, which was a collaboration among the department of public works, marine and environmental services, the conservation commission and the beach department, was to cap the existing dunes while ensuring the new sand deposits were placed above mean high tide.
“The DPW was very efficient and the process went very smoothly,” Mr. Fraser said. “Multiple town departments were involved and the effort was well-coordinated.”
