A gorgeous weekend is ahead, albeit a warm one. More 90s kick off the week as humidity builds through Monday, some storms on Tuesday will bring us back down to size. Our streak of consecutive 80s has us in the top five on record. While weather this weekend will put us in the #2 spot, #1 may be out of reach if the models are correct about a cool down late in the upcoming work week.
Simply put a spectacular day is ahead! We're starting off this morning in the middle 50s to the mid-60s. Dewpoints are right there too, so there is some patchy fog around but it won't be for long.
We'll have lots of sunshine throughout the day with just a few high clouds to the north of the Twin Bridges. Dewpoints will slowly fall into the low 60s as highs top out in the upper 70s to the upper 80s. We'll have a light breeze from the west/northwest.
Tonight follows suit with comfortable humidity, clear skies and lows back to the 50s to the mid-60s.
Tomorrow and Monday
Heat builds and eventually, so too does the humidity. For tomorrow, we'll have a mostly sunny sky once again but it'll be a bit warmer with highs in the 80s and low 90s. We'll have a bit of a westerly breeze to help boost those afternoon temperatures. As the humidity will slowly fall today, it'll slowly rise through tomorrow.
For Monday, we crank the humidity up some more with dewpoints back to 70 degrees or so. The heat will be there too, which will most likely bring about some heat advisories to the Hudson Valley.
A cold front will be off to our west all the while. It had been looking like we'd have a round of storms to deal with, but models are now postponing that activity and confining it to Tuesday. That said, there will be some scattered clouds with all of the humidity in place and we can't rule out a stray shower or storm. Highs will top out in the mid-80s to the low 90s.
Tuesday and beyond
Tuesday has the potential to be an active day of weather with humidity in place and with that cold front on the way. As of now, scattered showers and storms are in the forecast with some morning sunshine helping to cook things up a bit. It'll be a warm and humid day with highs in the 80s.
We'll catch a break on Wednesday with the mid-80s for highs, with perhaps a bit cooler weather and a few showers on Thursday with highs near 80 degrees.
Temperature check
That last sentence is a perfect segue to bring you up to speed on our warm summer!
Through yesterday, we're in the eighth warmest July on record. Not a big surprise, it's been warm with an average high of 87 and low of 67.
With today's 80s in place, we'll be fourth on the list of most consecutive 80-degree days at 27 (since 1938).
On Wednesday, we'll be at 31, which is second only to 2018's 44, a streak that ended on August 10.
As far as 90s go, we're up to 12 for the year, six this month, with at least a couple more on the way. Our average in any given year is 10.
Lastly, the Weather Service in Albany tells me the temperature sensor at the Albany Airport is going to be replaced. Quite a ride this month with it: at first, it was trending too warm so it was replaced about a week and a half ago. Now, it's trending too cool by 2-3 degrees (1 degree is acceptable, but not 2 or 3). So, another is on the way and that will hopefully cure the ails of our official temps. NWS Albany continues to take its readings as true, but do acknowledge its bias.
Hey, it damn sure won't be the first thing this year with an asterisk by it!
As always, thanks to NWS Albany for their data, records and information.
