It will be sunny and hot in Denver on Wednesday and an air quality alert has been issued for the Front Range from Castle Rock north to the Wyoming state line.

Denver’s high temperature on Wednesday will max out at 89 degrees and winds will gust to 20 mph, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

An Ozone Action Day Alert has been issued for a long stretch of the Front Range until 4 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Regional Air Quality Council. Douglas, Jefferson, Denver, western Arapahoe, western Adams, Broomfield, Boulder, Larimer and Weld counties are under the alert. Driving of gasoline powered vehicles should be limited if possible.

On Wednesday, ozone is expected to reach concentrations that are “unhealthy for sensitive groups,” according to forecasters. “Unusually sensitive people” should consider reducing prolonged or heavy outdoor exertion.

On Thursday, Denver’s high temperature will climb to 93 degrees under sunny skies and winds will continue to gust up to 20 mph, the weather service said.

On Friday in Denver, there’s a 20% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Some storms could produce heavy rains and the high temperature should hit 94 degrees.

Denver’s Independence Day (Saturday) forecast calls for a chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms and a high temp of 90 degrees.
