BEAUMONT, CA — Cal Fire/Riverside County firefighters have nearly contained a brush fire that broke out Friday near Beaumont along the Moreno Valley (60) Freeway, near Jack Rabbit Trail.

As of 7 a.m. Saturday, the agency reported the blaze — dubbed the Jack fire — scorched 145 acres and was 90 percent contained.

The brusher was first reported shortly before 4 p.m. Friday. It took nearly two hours before crews stopped the fire's forward spread.

One-hundred-sixty-five firefighters were dispatched to the blaze, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department. Four air tankers and two helicopters were called, along with 21 engine companies. Four water tenders and three bulldozers were also used to battle the blaze.

Friday afternoon and into late night, only one traffic lane remained open on the eastbound 60, according to the California Highway Patrol.

There were no shutdowns reported on the west side of the freeway, but traffic was slow through the late afternoon. Traffic was also jammed on Gilman Springs Road, according to the CHP.

There were no reports of evacuations and no word on how the fire started. No injuries were reported.
