HUNTSVILLE — Get ready to ski.
Snowbasin plans to open Thursday and the Weber County area’s other two ski resorts will quickly follow suit. Nordic Valley anticipates opening its slopes Saturday while Powder Mountain is planning to launch night skiing on Dec. 7.
“Our teams have been at it both day and night to make this opening possible,” Snowbasin General Manager Davy Ratchford said in a statement. “Thanks to their efforts, Mother Nature’s cooler temps this last week and our best-in-class snowmaking system, we will be ready to open with three lifts on Thursday.”
The Snowbasin slopes open at 9 a.m. Thursday and those champing at the bit to be the first to ski or snowboard will be able to camp at the resort overnight, with the first 100 people in line getting “exclusive Opening Day swag,” Snowbasin said. Three lifts will initially be operable — Needles Gondola, Middle Bowl Express and Littlecat Express — and guests will be able to access nine groomed runs and the Littlecat terrain park.
According to Ski Utah, a nonprofit trade group that promotes skiing and snowboarding in the state, Nordic Valley’s anticipated opening day is Saturday. Powder Mountain anticipates launching regular operations on Dec. 8, though night skiing begins a day before.
The Dec. 7 night skiing at Powder Mountain will go from 4-9 p.m., the resort said in a tweet. “Time to wax your gear and lay out that first day kit!” reads the message.
Several other ski resorts around Utah are already open, according to Ski Utah.
