Why this route?
The company initially designated three possible routes — Red, Blue and Green — and chose the blue route based on a combination of factors: environmental impact, safety and cost/reliability, among others. Landowners, business owners/operators and community stakeholders were offered a chance to weigh-in on the routes, the company said.
Hank McCullough, Piedmont Natural Gas community relations manager said community input was key in helping the company pick the best route.
“We appreciate everyone who participated in the evaluation process and recognize there is a clear expectation that we continue to preserve and protect the environment,” he said in a statement.
What to expect if you live in the area:
Construction is a year or more away. Land surveys will begin in 2022. The company will communicate directly with landowners and businesses along the route before land surveys begin and throughout the process until the project is complete. The company also will continue posting up-to-date project information on its website at piedmontng.com/Greenville.
