The Eagles headed up the New Jersey Turnpike on Sunday, looking to increase their winning streak to three games when they face the New York Giants for the first time in the 2021 season.

Philadelphia is 5-6 and closing in on a playoff spot, while the Giants enter the showdown 3-7 coming off a short week after losing Monday night to Tampa Bay 30-10.

Here are six storylines to follow in Week 12.

1. DeVonta Smith was Giants dream pick

It’ll be the first matchup for a New York Giants franchise and Philadelphia star rookie, DeVonta Smith.

Smith leads the Eagles with 46 receptions for 664 yards and four touchdowns and he’ll look to break the hearts of New York fans twice a year for the foreseeable future.  New York coveted the Heisman Trophy winner, but a late trade between Philadelphia and Dallas paved the way for Howie Roseman to land Smith.

3. Saquon Barkley is back

The Giants star running back has returned to the lineup and will look to carve up an Eagles defense that has been vulnerable against pass-catching ball carriers.

In the loss to Tampa, Barkley averaged 4.2 yards per carry on six rush attempts while catching all six of his targets for 31 yards.

4. Eagles set to run Giants out of MetLife

Jordan Howard will be out, but that won’t stop the Eagles’ heavily powered running game from being established the minute the bus pulls up in East Rutherford.

The Eagles have scored 30+ points in three of their last four games, including two games with 40+ points. In all three of those games, the Eagles ran for over 215 yards on the ground, with three different players topping 50 rushing yards. Jalen Hurts ranks 9th in the league in rushing yards regardless of position.

The Giants were able to limit Buccaneers running backs Leonard Fournette and Ronald Jones to 68 yards on 18 carries.

A win would put the Eagles at 6-6 on the season and just 1.5 games behind Dallas for first place in the NFC East.

Philadelphia will return to MetLife for a matchup with the Jets and then finally get a well-deserved bye.

6. Kenneth Gainwell sighting

With Jordan Howard out, Gainwell will be active and could provide a change of pace for an Eagles offense that has been punishing offenses over the past few weeks.
