GALICE, Oregon — A Wenatchee man is dead after a fatal fall on a hiking trail along the Rogue River in Oregon.
Ernest James Bolz, 77, was pronounced dead at a local airport, after a Coast Guard helicopter crew recovered him from a cliffside Tuesday night. Authorities said Bolz’s hiking companion summoned help using a personal satellite tracker just before 6:30 p.m. The helicopter rescuers located Bolz just two hours later.
The two were hiking the Rogue River Trail outside Galice, Oregon. The Josephine County Sheriff’s Office said as of this morning, the search continued for Bolz’s companion, who was not found at the rescue site.
