The view Friday morning off Corolla Light Resort.

The combination of a pesky onshore flow and the possibility of the first tropical system of 2021 forming near Bermuda is expected to produce a high risk of deadly rip currents along the Outer Banks now through early next week.

East and northeast winds over the last several days has kept the rip current risk up for all the area beaches this week.

Swells from the east is expected to increase as a low pressure system off Bermuda is forecast to become better organized, and could become Subtropical Storm Ana later today before it sprints off towards northern Europe.

That will likely bring the east-facing beaches a high risk of rip currents from the state line to Cape Hatteras, including Corolla, Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Bodie Island, Pea Island, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon and Buxton.

The southern beaches off Frisco, Hatteras village and Ocracoke could see strong cross currents at the same time.
