GRAND HAVEN, MI -- A black bear was found dead along a Grand Haven area road and police say it was likely struck by a vehicle.

Police received a call about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 4 about the dead bear.

The caller found the bear in the 14000 block of Mercury Drive in Grand Haven Township and thought it was likely struck by a vehicle.

Ottawa County sheriff’s deputies arrived and determined the bear had a head injury.

Deputies issued a state Department of Natural Resources “kill tag permit” to a different uninvolved motorist who took the bear.

Police said they informed the DNR about the bear death on Wednesday.
