Trump ‘boat parade’ splashes along Massachusetts shore - Boston Herald

poloong.blogspot.com

Fans of President Trump hoped to make a splash Saturday in Newport, bringing one of Trump’s “boat parades” to the shores of the Bay State.

“It’s way beyond what we thought it was going to be,” organizer James Haynes told the Herald. “The interest just exploded.”

Unable to attend a similar rally in Gloucester, Haynes decided to launch a parade of his own. Word of the floating rally spread far enough that soon Haynes’ friends were asking him whether he’d heard about it and was going — to his own event.

“These things have been popping up all over the country,” Haynes said. “We decided to do it because we want to show support for our country, show support for our president, show support for the men and women in law enforcement and show support for the troops.”

Trump, ever the fan of a good spectacle, has touted several “boat parades” as showing the strength of his support — and noting that his opponents have not had boaters come out in the same numbers.

The Newburyport event went off swimmingly, with dozens of boats decked out in full Make America Great Again regalia zipping along the shoreline.

In the midst of the pandemic, the boats provided plenty of space for social distancing. The route was chosen to go by beaches and large public spaces where those who wanted to watch from land could do so safely, as well.
