COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Police in Colorado Springs believe a motorcyclist trying to get out of a speeding ticket later crashed along a busy roadway.
On Tuesday just before 4 p.m., an officer was conducting speed enforcement near N. Academy Boulevard and Austin Bluffs Parkway. A speeding motorcyclist passed and the officer attempted to pull the suspect over. Authorities are reporting the motorcyclist accelerated and ran a red light. Because of the heavy amount of traffic, the officer didn't chase the suspect.
A short time later, a crash was reported just down the street near Brenner Place along Austin Bluffs. Responding officers believe it was the same motorcyclist who ran a red light.
The suspect was identified as 19-year-old Jorge Amaya. He was treated for injuries at a nearby hospital and is now facing a felony charge for vehicular eluding and other traffic-related charges.
Austin Bluffs was closed in both directions for several hours.
Details on how fast the motorcyclist was going were not immediately available.
