Hunterdon County has launched a new website to promote the many farms, markets and vineyards located in the region of the county’s historic County Road 579.
The new website, spearheaded by the Hunterdon County Tourism Partnership and funded by the county’s office of Economic Development, reflects county officials’ desire for "area residents to rediscover what’s right in their own backyard,” according to a press release shared with NJ Advance Media on Friday.
“This is a time when residents might not be traveling as much as they have in previous years,” Sue Soloway, deputy director of the Hunterdon County Board of Freeholders, said in the release. “Luckily they don’t have to go far to enjoy the county’s rich agricultural tradition.”
In addition to promoting farmers markets and wineries, the website features farms along the Hunterdon County 579 Trail where onsite purchasing is available at farm stands. Icons enable viewers to determine everything from the types of products sold at these sites to the types of services they offer, including online ordering and the option to participate in Community Supported Agriculture.
Local producers are credited with the idea for the website’s creation, according to Economic Development Director Marc Saluk.
“They knew they had terrific products but lacked a website and campaign to connect the dots on all the local food and beverage options,” Saluk explained. “Hopefully, this new effort permanently addresses this concern.”
Farms and markets must be within a seven-mile radius of County Road 579 to be considered a part of the Trail, though an “Off the Trail” menu can also be found on the website to showcase similar venues in other parts of Hunterdon County.
The website also features an interactive trail map, which allows users to virtually guide themselves those along the Hunterdon County 579 Trail.
“Nothing says Hunterdon more than a drive through the beautiful hills of the 579 area and experiencing our beautiful farms and their terrific products,” Soloway added. “It makes for a terrific day out.”
Individuals can sign up to receive updates and a newsletter on the website, or stay up to date with the Hunterdon County 579 Trail by following its Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages.
