Ontario Mills reopens after coronavirus closure; Victoria Gardens, Montclair Place to follow - Press-Enterprise

The sprawling Ontario Mills shopping mall reopened Tuesday morning, May 26, after being shuttered more than two months due to coronavirus pandemic-triggered restrictions.

Meanwhile, Montclair Place officials said they planned to reopen Friday, May 29.

And Victoria Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga is set to reopen Monday, June 1, said Lindsay Kahn, spokeswoman for Brookfield Properties in Chicago, which owns Victoria Gardens as well as Riverside’s Galleria at Tyler and Promenade Temecula.

The reopening follows the state’s decision over the Memorial Day weekend to give San Bernardino County officials the green light to let malls open and restaurants offer dining service.

At all three malls, shoppers will see changes such as tables being spaced farther apart in dining areas. They also will be expected to practice social distancing to minimize the chance of spreading the coronavirus, officials said.

“The health, safety and well-being of the community we serve will always be our highest priority, and we have developed a thorough and detailed set of protocols highlighting the exceptional measures we’ve implemented for shoppers, retailers and employees as we reopen,” Ontario Mills General Manager Marc Smith said in a statement:

Thorough and frequent cleaning will be the norm for high-traffic areas, including dining spots, restrooms, escalators, stairs, directories, trash bins and door knobs, a news release stated.

The center will offer at entrances protective masks, sanitizing wipes and temperature testing, the release said, while hand-sanitizing stations will be set up in several places. Social distancing practices will be enforced and a limited number of people will be allowed in restrooms. Play areas will be closed.

Ontario Mills, which employs more than 2,900 people, closed March 19 in response to COVID-19 orders.

At Montclair Place, a deep cleaning has taken place, including the replacement of air conditioning system filters, officials said. Once open, some mall and restroom doors will be left open to reduce the number of places that people touch, and chairs and tables will be spread out in the food court.
