ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI – A man who was standing on the side of the highway after his vehicle went into a ditch was struck by another vehicle that lost control due to slippery road conditions on Friday night.
Police responded to the crash at 10:17 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, near mile marker 31 on northbound I-196 in Ganges Township, according to a news release from the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office.
The man was a passenger in a car that had lost control on the highway due to slippery road conditions and driven into a ditch, police said. While he was standing outside of the car, the passenger was reportedly struck by another vehicle that lost control.
The passenger, a 25-year-old man from Zeeland, was transported to Holland Hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries from the crash, police said. The other people involved in the crash were also taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries, according to the release.
The crash remains under investigation by the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office was assisted on the scene by the Ganges Fire Department, Life EMS and South Haven EMS.
