We’ll be posting about all of the important wins, highlights and, of course, upsets as the action unfolds throughout the day at Union High School. Wrestlers competing in the North 2 Tournament come from Regions 3 and 4.
The brackets below will be updated as the results pour in but consider this your page to stay in the know. We’ll have a reporter mat side through the tournament’s conclusion Sunday evening. We’ll keep you informed about the top wrestlers, milestones and all of the important facts you need to know about.

Quarterfinals
On the mat (285 pounds)
Mat 1: Liam Akers, Jr 6-0 (North Hunterdon) vs Jordan Kiley, Sr 6-4 (Phillipsburg)
Mat 2: Austin Scott, Sr 7-1 (South Plainfiel) vs Jack Price, Jr 4-0 (Westfield)
Mat 3: Justin Evans, Jr 12-0 (Irvington) vs Ricky Perez, Sr 6-1 (North Bergen)
Mat 4: Hunter Seubert, So 9-0 (Watchung Hills ) vs Tyler McCatharn, Jr 7-0 (Warren Hills)
4:25: Welcome back, if you’ve been following along all morning. The first round in underway. I’ll be back with mat assignments when we get to the quarterfinals.
2:55: That’s a wrap from the morning session. I’ll have a story up shortly.
1:30: The finals and medal matches will be starting at 1:50
Mat 2: Finals
Mat 4: 3rd/4th
Mat 1: 5th/6th
1:10: The consolation semifinals aka the Blood Round are underway. Winners here move on to the state tournament. The loser is eliminated.
12:45: Bloomfield’s Zachary Andruchowitz got a reversal with about 10 seconds left to come back and beat Delbarton’s Nicholas Oliveri, 8-7. Great back-and-forth bout there. Andruchowitz will face Seton Hall Prep’s Conner Decker in the final.
12:28: Two absolute doozies in the semifinals at 160 pounds. Lets start with Delbarton freshman Louis Cerchio. The No. 5 seed beat Lyndhurst’s Dylan Weaver, 8-4. Cerchio put him on his back in the first period. Weaver was a two-time region champ and is a multi-time state placewinner. See the video below.
In the other semifinal at 160, Blake Bahna of Watchung Hills won 4-3 against Nicholas Sacco of Bridgewater-Raritan. Sacco had beaten Bahna head to head two weeks ago but Bahna, a state placewinner, won the rematch today. Bahna and Cerchio will be a great final coming up later.
11:46: That’s a wrap on the quarterfinals. The top four seeds all advanced at 182 but there were some good challenges, including one by Phillipsburg freshman Caleb Rivera against top-seeded Conner Decker of Seton Hall Prep. Decker won 5-2.
11:35: Pretty much chalk at 160 and 170 pounds. The No. 5 seed in both weights beat the 4. At 160, it was Delbarton freshman Louis Cerchio and 170 it was Brett Miller of Bound Brook.
11:21: Jack See’s Cinderella run continues. The No. 13 seed from Somerville is through to the semifinals after beating Patrick Nevins of Gov. Livingston, 6-4. He’s beaten the 4 an 5 seeds so far and will now take on top-seeded Andrew Trocynski of Delbarton in the semifinals at 152.
10:48: We’ve got a few more bouts in the opening round at 182 and then it’s onto the quarterfinals. When it will start to get a little bit easier to follow the mat assignments. Announcement was just made that the quarterfinals will start at 11:05.
10:45: We’ve got some significant shakeups at 152 pounds, where two double-digit seeds made it to the quarterfinals. Somerville’s Jack See, the No. 13 seed defeated fourth-seeded Colin Murray of Cranford, 12-8. Then Westfield’s Michael Murphy, the No. 11 seed, beat sixth-seeded Jack Bash of Watchung Hills, 7-4.
