San Diego County is in the midst of a brief warm spell that will peak on Friday when temperatures reach the upper 70s to low 80s at the coast and the 90s in many inland valleys and foothills.
The highest non-desert temperatures could occur in Escondido, which is expected to hit 93, and El Cajon, which will top out at 92. Even Julian will be hot, reaching 81, says the National Weather Service. Palomar Mountain will get to 75.
The temperature will be 70 when the Padres begin play against the San Francisco Giants at Petco Park at 7:10 p.m. on Friday. Winds will be light out of the west. Attendance will be limited to about 15,000 due to the pandemic.
Forecasters say the winds will turn sharply onshore over the weekend, preventing San Diego from climbing above 69 on Saturday and 67 on Sunday, when the marine layer could shroud the sun all day at many local beaches. The clouds are expected to extend east of Interstate 15 on Sunday.

The clouds are likely to remain offshore until late morning on Saturday. So early risers should be able to see the International Space Station fly overhead at 3:49 a.m. Look low on the north-northwest horizon. The weather will turn warmer on Monday when the high reaches 70 in San Diego and 75 in Escondido.
The surf will be modest on Friday, only reaching the 2-foot to 3-foot range at most beaches. But waves could reach 4 feet in some spots late Saturday and 5 feet on Sunday. Favored spots: Sunset Cliffs and Imperial Beach. The sea surface temperature will be in the 59- to 63-degree range.
