Lucas: Biden and Co. follow the money from China - Boston Herald

Political leaders in Taiwan would be best served by making a deal with China before it is too late.

Because if President Biden sends someone like former Sen. Chris Dodd to Taiwan as a “personal signal” of support in the face of invasion threats by China, you know the game is over.

Dodd was one of the late Ted Kennedy’s partying buddies, known for his part in a Kennedy “waitress sandwich” years ago at a swanky Washington restaurant.

Dodd is currently on a trip to Taiwan with two other former State Department officials, reportedly traveling to Taiwan as an unofficial delegation at President Biden’s request.

If the Chinese, who claim the island as part of China, were intimidated, they sure did not show it. Instead, they sent scores of war planes in and around Taiwan air space to intimidate Taiwan.

The expansionist Communist Party of the People’s Republic of China is flexing its muscles and it is only a matter of time before it annexes Taiwan, one way or another.

Depending on Biden to come to the aid of Taiwan, which we have supported for years, is futile.

Biden and his family, like many other Americans and American institutions, have been so compromised by Chinese money that they can’t think or speak straight.

In 2014, when then Vice President Biden was in Beijing meeting with China’s Xi Jinping, his son Hunter came away with a $1.5 billion investment in his Rosemont Seneca Partners firm from the Chinese government, according to a report by Peter Schweizer in his 2018 book “Secret Empires: How the American Political Class Hides Corruption and Enriches Family and Friends.”

Practically everything in America is for sale these days, including its valuable farmland, which the Chinese are buying up at an alarming rate, even though it is not widely reported in the left-leaning U.S. press. And that is because much of the media, like the Bidens, is also beholden to China.

As of 2019 China owned some 200,000 acres of U.S. farmland worth $2 billion, and it is still buying more.

Just six states have laws banning foreigners from owning U.S. farmland. They are Hawaii, Iowa, Minnesota, Mississippi, North Dakota and Oklahoma.

CNN is owned by Warner Media, which has ties to the People’s Republic of China with a $50 million investment in Chinese Media, a so-called “private” Chinese company.

NBC and MSNB are owned by NBC Universal which has a partnership with Xinhua, China’s state-run media. ABC, with Chinese government support, has invested billions in building Disney World in Shanghai.

Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon and the owner of the Washington Post, buys many of his biggest-selling products from China where they are made by low-wage workers. It also runs “China Watch,” a paid supplement written by Chinese propagandists.

Carlos Slim, the largest shareholder in The New York Times, has extensive business interests in China. His mobile phone company America Movil has reportedly partnered with China’s Huawei Technologies to sell 5G technology to Columbia.

China practically owns Hollywood. The Chinese company Dalian Wanda owns the AMC movie chain. It also owns Legendary Entertainment, makers of such international hits as “Godzilla,” “The Dark Night,” “Jurassic Park” and many others.

Major League Baseball, like the National Basketball Association, is so concerned about voting rights, police brutality and alleged systematic racism in the U.S., but has no qualms about doing business with China, where dissidents are brutalized, jailed and made to disappear.

Also, there is hardly a college in the country, starting with Harvard, that does not take money from China.

Once the slogan was “Buy American.” Now it’s “Buy America.”
