Tomball Community Development Director Craig Meyers said he anticipates the first phase of alley upgrades in Old Town to begin mid-year. The estimated $1 million Phase 1 would renovate alleys north and south of West Main Street from Elm to Cherry streets.
State, counties to pursue redistricting
After every census, states and local jurisdictions must go through a process known as redistricting—redrawing the boundaries to ensure equal representation. Results of the 2020 census are to be reported by April 1, said Jeff Archer, the executive director of the Texas Legislative Council—a nonpartisan agency lending support to the Legislature—so legislators can vote to approve new maps for state House and Senate districts by the end of the legislative session May 31. With a possible delay in census reporting this year, Archer said redistricting could be pushed into a special-called session. Redistricting also applies to local governments, including commissioner precincts, he said.
Wastewater expansions underway
The city of Magnolia’s ongoing $9.97 million expansion project of its wastewater treatment plant on Nichols Sawmill Road, which began in fall 2019, will expand capacity to 1.3 million gallons per day and 4,330 connections by spring 2021. Additionally, the facility is expected to undergo a second expansion in preparation for future growth and development in the city over the next 20 years. Construction for the $7.8 million second expansion is expected to take 15 to 18 months to complete, although an estimated start date is unknown. City officials previously said the expansion will raise wastewater capacity from 650,000 gallons of water per day to 2 million and increase the city’s connections to 6,660.
