EAU CLAIRE (WQOW)- All eyes will be on the Packers this weekend as they look to earn a trip to Tampa Bay, but if you're planning on gathering with friends or family for the game, health officials want you to do it safely.
Health specialists from the Eau Claire City-County Health Department are recommending fans follow all COVID-19 safety precautions at watch parties on Sunday, like avoiding crowded restaurants or bars.
If you do go out, they recommend wearing a mask when not eating or drinking. Officials have also been reaching out to establishments to ensure they follow the guidelines.
They also urge everyone to be cautions not just this weekend, but for other major sporting events coming up.
"It's really an exciting time with football playoffs and then we'll soon be into March Madness season," said Audrey Boerner, public health specialist at the Eau Claire City-County Health Department. "But as long as we have the virus in our community, it's high-risk to gather with other people. Our recommendations are still just to gather with your immediate household or just a few other people, and make sure that nobody is having any sort of symptoms of COVID-19."
Boerner said fans should also download Wisconsin's exposure notification app to get word if you've been exposed to COVID-19 at a watch party.
The Packers are set to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Championship Game at Lambeau Field this Sunday, with kickoff at 2:05 p.m.
