This year has held many challenges and people are looking forward to a fresh start, with hopes for a healthy and prosperous new year. Because of the ongoing pandemic, most celebrations for New Year’s Eve will look a little different. Everyone wants to begin 2021 in good health, so be sure to follow guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), including:

  • The safest way to celebrate is to participate in a virtual gathering. Click here for fun ideas.
  • If celebrating with others in person, limit the number of guests and try to remain outdoors, if possible.
  • Stay at least 6 feet away from anyone who does not live with you.
  • Wear a mask. If you are hosting others, offer masks to guests and encourage everyone to wear them inside and outside.
  • Remember to wash your hands regularly and use hand sanitizer.
  • Keep background music volume low so guests don’t need to shout.

Stay home if you or someone in your home feels sick or has been in contact with someone with COVID-19.

  • Wear protective eyewear if using fireworks or standing nearby.
  • Light one firework at a time and quickly move a safe distance after lighting.
  • Never point or throw fireworks at another person or try to light fireworks in a glass or metal container.
  • Point fireworks away from houses, vehicles and brush or leaves.
  • Do not try to re-light or handle malfunctioning fireworks.
  • Soak used fireworks in water before disposing of them.
  • Keep a bucket of water nearby in case of fire or to fully extinguish fireworks that don’t go off.

Stay safe and have a happy new year!
