The FBI is seeing the public’s help in identifying the man whose torso was found wrapped in garbage bags in Monroe County nine years ago.

The homicide and missing-persons case has been ongoing since the torso was discovered in Paradise Township Dec. 26, 2011.

The grisly discovery was made by a motorist passing by on the busy Route 191, the Citizen’s Voice reported at the time. It was placed within clear view of the road near the guardrail on top of a ravine overlooking a stream, according to reports.

The man had been dead anywhere between two weeks and two months, reports indicate.

According to the FBI, the man would have been in his 50s or 60s. He had thoracic surgery about 10 years before his death, which investigators know due to his sternum being fused together with wire and surgical clips. He would have a scar from the surgery on his chest.

The torso was found wrapped in four black garbage bags, tied with cotton clothesline and a makeshift clothesline handle.

The man’s head and limbs were not found after investigators searched the area.
