HAWTHORNE, NJ - On Sunday, Hawthorne residents will be treated to the annual SantaRun, hosted by the Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary. "We have confirmed with the North Pole," Captain Travis Lodder of the Fire Department said.
The SantaRun will start at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 20, and Santa Claus with the Fire Department will drive around town to spread Christmas fun. "Unfortunately, this year we will not be able to make any stops or go through every street," Lodder said. "We have put together a map of the streets we will be coming down. At 1:00 p.m. Sunday we will post a link for you to track us so you know when we get near your neighborhood."
The SantaRun had to be modified due to two significant factors this year: the necessity to maintain distance to avoid spreading coronavirus, and the accumulation of snow. "We need to be able to properly social distance to protect ourselves, so we can protect you. With the snowfall we received this week it may make it a challenge for the trucks to make it down the streets, but we are going to make every attempt possible to help spread Christmas cheer. Listen for the sirens, follow us on the app, and wave to Santa as we bring him around."
Residents who have questions regarding the SantaRun can call Travis Lodder at 201-995-7862 or Fire Chief Joe Speranza at 973-296-7420.
