Rain continued to taper off in New York City on Sunday evening. However, we are tracking another line of heavy downpours moving in from the west. If it holds up, we may get another round of showers in NYC around 7:30 p.m.
Keep in mind that it will take a bit longer for this system to exit Long Island. Showers and storms are expected to end around 9 p.m.
Navigating around town will be a bit challenging. Fallen leaves coupled with wet streets will make it a bit slippery. Those leaves may also clog drains and create pooling along the way.
After the storm moves out, there could be a few flakes north and west of the city overnight. However, the main concern will be gusty winds. A wind advisory will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday for southeast NY, northeast New Jersey and southern Connecticut.
Northwest winds are expected to clock in between 20 and 30 mph with gusts 45 to 50 mph. Winds could blow around unsecured objects. Expect down tree limbs and power outages as a result. Sunshine returns on Election Day. It will be chilly with highs mainly in the upper 40s. Milder weather returns for the second half of the week.
Tracking the Tropics
Tropical Storm Eta formed in the Caribbean last night, making it the 28th named storm of the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season. It is the first time that the name Eta has ever been used to name a tropical system. The storm will continue to intensify as it tracks westward and is likely to become a hurricane (maximum sustained winds of 74 mph or greater) before impacting Central America, including Honduras and Nicaragua. It will not make landfall in the United States, but we’ll continue to monitor its impacts.
