Tropical Storm Laura could also be headed toward Louisiana, just days after Tropical Storm Marco.

The probable path for the storm's center could still shift east or west, but as of Sunday morning it was forecast to make landfall as a hurricane along the coast of central Louisiana.

“We all do still need to monitor actually both Marco and Laura," said Josh Lichter, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service's Houston/Galveston office. "Even if Marco is not a storm (when it reaches Houston), some of its moisture is going to be headed westward toward us. So we could get some rain out of that system, and then our eyes will turn to Laura. It’s all going to depend on how strong Laura gets out in the Gulf, but there is plenty of time for computer models to alter their tracks a little bit.”

As of Sunday morning, he said Tropical Storm Laura should mostly affect the Houston area's marine communities with higher seas and dangerous rip currents.

The center of Tropical Storm Laura was over Haiti as of 7 a.m. Sunday. The storm is not expected to strengthen within the next 36 to 48 hours as it continues moving over or near Hispaniola and Cuba. It is, however, expected to strengthen into a hurricane after it moves into the Gulf of Mexico Monday night and Tuesday.
