A trio of loose spools that fell off a trailer is snarling traffic along the Katy Freeway near downtown Thursday morning.
Most eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 at Houston Avenue are closed as police work with wrecker drivers to clear the three large pieces of equipment, which appeared to have been pulled by a pickup truck. They fell off the trailer around 9:40 a.m. and have been positioned awkwardly on the freeway since.

It is unclear if the spools could not clear the Houston Avenue overpass, which is often struck by oversized loads illegally hauling goods through the city.
A heavy-duty wrecker had pulled one of the spools up by 11 a.m.
