If Republicans wanted the truth about Jan. 6 they would have supported forming the independent investigation commission. In fact, if they really wanted the truth, they would have insisted on such. They did not. They choose instead to minimize and deny claiming Jan. 6 was just a minor episode and that it’s best to just move on. Wrong, wrong, wrong!

Fellow Republicans, I submit to you that Trump, his Republican enablers, and the right-wing media echo chambers have systematically lied to you. This isn’t the first time. For example, Republicans lied about climate change and did it so effectively that it set us back 40 years in address this existential issue. Many are lying now about Jan. 6.

If you haven’t been paying attention to the hearings, you probably have little real understanding of the breath and gravity of this situation. Trump’s “Stop the Steal” campaign is the biggest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people and the worst thing ever done by a U.S. president. The damage his fraudulent claims have done to our democracy is incalculable.

There is a mountain of evidence that significant voter fraud did not happen and that Trump himself was told so over and over again by members of his own party and administration. Many of those individuals are testifying to this and to the fact that many of Trumps’ efforts to overturn the election were borderline or blatantly unconstitutional if not down-right illegal.

You owe it to yourselves and to the rest of America to come to grips with these facts. Willful ignorance at this point is inexcusable. You will find little in the way of real facts by listening to right-wing opinion lineups. You must look elsewhere. Follow the hearings. Your souls and the fate of our Democracy depend on it.
