Once you know what the tiny white balls are sticking to the feathery needles of Michigan’s majestic hemlock trees, a walk in the woods at Lake Harbor Park along Lake Michigan can be downright depressing.
That’s because those little balls that seem to be everywhere are egg sacks of a tiny bug that is literally sucking the life out of the evergreens up and down Michigan’s west coast. Lake Harbor, in southern Muskegon County, has been particularly hard hit.
