The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood warning for seven New Jersey counties amid a storm that has brought pelting rain and gusty winds to the Garden State.
The warning include the potential for moderate coastal flooding in parts of Atlantic, southeastern Burlington, Cape May, Cumberland, Middlesex, Monmouth and Ocean counties. The warning continues through 5 p.m. Monday.
“At this level, widespread roadway flooding occurs in coastal and bayside communities and along inland tidal waterways,” the weather service said. “Many roads become impassable. Some damage to vulnerable structures may begin to occur.
The worst flooding may occur during high tide around 11 a.m. Sunday, though the times vary along the Jersey Shore.
A coastal flood advisory is in effect for several counties along the Delaware River and Delaware Bay with the potential for minor flooding, the weather service said. The advisory includes Salem, Camden Gloucester, northwestern Burlington through Monday evening. There’s also a coastal flood advisory for Hudson County until 2 p.m. Monday.
Do not drive your car through flood waters, the water may be deeper than you think, weather service advises.
