Arkansas 62, UCA 53 - 11:44 left

The Bears are not going down without a fight. Arkansas extended its second-half lead to 14, but UCA then went on a 9-3 run to get back into this one.

Jalen Tate has handed out two more assists since the last break, bringing him to eight tonight. It is his most assists in a game since the second game of his final season at Northern Kentucky. He has 17 points. Desi Sills still with 14, and Justin Smith has eight.

Arkansas 54, UCA 44 - 14:47 left

I keep writing about Jalen Tate in these updates, but he is easily having his best game as a Razorback.

He has scored 15 points and handed out six assists to night to lead Arkansas, and he has five points and three assists since halftime. Tate has really been on his game and given the Razorbacks an offensive lift not many expected.

Desi Sills is the other Arkansas player in double figures with 14 on 6 of 10 from the floor. Moses Moody and Connor Vanover each have seven points on 3 of 7 from the floor. Vanover has seven rebounds, too.

UCA is 3 of 9 from the floor since halftime and shooting 44 percent for the game.

Arkansas 45, UCA 35 - 18:38 left

Jalen Tate is continuing his strong game. He scored on the Razorbacks' first possession on a shot near the rim, then he found Justin Smith in transition for an alley oop to force a UCA timeout.

Tate is up to 12 points and a team-high four assists in his 19 minutes.

Arkansas 41, UCA 35 - Half

Jalen Tate and Desi Sills each have 10 points to lead Arkansas in and up-and-down first half. Sills, as it is his nature, has finished a couple of tough looks around the rim and provided some sparks of energy.

Tate has been solid on both ends. He was the first Razorback in double figures, and he has made things difficult for UCA's point guard. The Bears turned the ball over nine times in the first half.

DeAndre Jones leads UCA with nine points, four assists and a pair of steals. The Bears are plus-4 in his 17 minutes.

Arkansas fell behind by as many as 10 before halftime, but the Razorbacks used runs of 10-0 and 12-0 to regain a bit of control in this one. But UCA is fighting. This is the toughest test Arkansas has faced this season, in my opinion.

Moses Moody also has seven points, four rebounds and three assists, and Connor Vanover and JD Notae combined for 10 points on 4 of 13 shooting.

Arkansas 36, UCA 28 - 3:54 left first half

The Razorbacks are on a 20-3 run over the last 5-plus minutes and an 8-0 run covering the last 2:28, regaining a bit of control in this game. The Bears have given Arkansas its best challenge to date without question.

Jalen Tate is playing really well tonight on both ends. He is the only Razorback in double figures with 10 points on 4 of 5 from the floor. He also has three assists to tie Moses Moody for the team lead, and he has a steal that led to a Bears foul. Moody and JD Notae each have two steals.

UCA is 2 of its last 9 from the floor.

UCA 25, Arkansas 23 - 8:16 left first half

Connor Vanover just knocked down his first 3 of the night from the left wing to force a UCA timeout. He is 5 of 10 from deep on the left wing this season. Nice find by Moses Moody in transition.

Jalen Tate, prior to Vanover's triple, drove the lane with his left hand and got to the rim and finished. Tate has a team-high seven points so far, and Desi Sills has four. He rebounded a missed 3 a moment ago and got the layup to go plus the foul. He missed the free throw, though.

UCA is 11 of 21 from the floor to this point.

UCA 19, Arkansas 12 - 12:11 left first half

The Bears are finding a good deal of success at the rim tonight, getting 6 of their 7 attempts to fall so far.

Eric Musselman just burned a rare timeout after UCA converted an alley oop. The Bears are 9 of 14 from the floor and earlier hit a deep, deep 3 from the left wing.

Jalen Tate has a team-high five points for the Razorbacks. Arkansas has turned it over four times.

UCA 10, Arkansas 7 - 15:13 left first half

Really up-and-down pace to this one early on, which we expected. UCA wants to get out and run. The Bears have played the sixth-fastest pace in the nation through three games.

UCA is 5 of 9 from the floor and four of those scores have come at the rim. The Bears are 0 of 2 from deep.

Justin Smith has a pair of scores at the rim to this point, and Jalen Tate hit a right-corner 3, his first of the season. JD Notae was the first Razorback off the bench, subbing in for Desi Sills.

Pregame

Arkansas' starting lineup: Jalen Tate, Moses Moody, Desi Sills, Justin Smith and Connor Vanover.

This group has been great together over the last two games. It is their fifth consecutive start. Offensively, it has scored at a 1.27 PPP clip and only turned the ball over on 9.1% of its 44 possessions. On the other end, Lipscomb and Southern scored .44 PPP and shot under 25% on both 2- and 3-point attempts.

Moody is averaging a team-high 16.2 points on 47.1% shooting. He is also third in rebounding at 5.4 per game. Eric Musselman likes that a lot about his game. Moody has grabbed three offensive rebounds in each of Arkansas’ last three games.

Some shooing numbers to keep an eye on: JD Notae is 2 of 13 from 3-point range on the left wing, Vance Jackson is 1 of 9 from the same spot and Moody is 2 of 11. We’ll see if they can get going from there or if they let it fly from an area of the floor they are a bit more effective.

UCA's starters: DeAndre Jones (5-11), Rylan Bergersen (6-6), Khaleem Bennett (6-4), Samson George (6-7) and Jared Chatham (6-8).

The Bears enter tonight’s game 0-3 with losses at Memphis, Arkansas-Little Rock and Saint Louis since Dec. 4. UCA is going to look to get up and down the floor, as they currently have the nation’s sixth-fastest pace, according to KenPom analytics, at 76.6 possessions per game.

Anthony Boone’s club has been turnover prone in the season’s early stages, recording a miscue on 30.3% of its possessions, which ranks 303rd nationally. And 16% of their offensive possessions have ended in a steal, per KenPom. We’ll see how active Arkansas’ defense is tonight and if those UCA numbers stand up.

Bergersen leads the Bears in scoring at 17.3 points per game, and George is averaging a team-high 5.7 rebounds. Jones’ 4.3 assists per night lead the team as well. As a team, UCA has shot the 3 at a 39% clip.
