Flags were ordered to half-staff by Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb for all residences, businesses and state buildings in honor of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
It appears that a local business did not get the memo. Their United States of America flag was lowered completely down.
I noticed the improper display at approximately 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, 2020. I informed an employee, and said employee told me he told his supervisor.
At approximately 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21, 2020, I noticed the flag was still completely down. In the early afternoon, I went to our local Veterans Service Office. The gentleman at the front desk called (the business) and he told them about our flag’s incorrect position.
I went to (the business) and saw our flag was finally put to half-staff, but the staff raised it from the full lowered position to half-staff. Section 7m of the Flag Code reads: “The flag, when flown at half-staff, should be first hoisted to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff position … ”
I am an old guy. I learned respect for our flag in the seventh grade. More important, I am a veteran, and I had friends die in Vietnam. Our country and our flag means the world to me.
