Emily Ford update: More than halfway along the Ice Age Trail - Duluth News Tribune

poloong.blogspot.com

Duluth hiker Emily Ford is making progress along her nearly 1,200-mile hike on Wisconsin’s Ice Age Trail.

Ford left the Sturgeon Bay area of eastern Wisconsin on Dec. 28 with her borrowed dog, Diggins. She expects to finish her hike in March at the western end of the Ice Age Trail near St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, about 90 miles south of Superior.

As of Thursday, Ford had reached Rosholt, Wisconsin and, after chewing up a lot of miles in the past week, was taking a day off to prepare for the bitterly cold temperatures expected this weekend.

She and Diggins are now about 640 miles into the trip — just over halfway — after more than five weeks of hiking. "Heading for home finally!'' she reports.

Ford says she continues to meet great people along the trail, including a middle school class who left welcome signs for her along the route.
