Along Came Trudy owner nominated for award despite defying COVID-19 orders - KEZI TV

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Despite openly defying Gov. Kate Brown's COVID-19 orders, Along Came Trudy owner Trudy Logan has been nominated for Springfield Chamber of Commerce's business person of the year award.

Other restaurant owners in Springfield reacted to this nomination.

"It's quite frustrating to be honest. When we first got the orders from the governor, none of us wanted to shut down. But it was something that we felt we should do for the safety of the public," Ciao Pizza owner David Lucht said. "It feels like the Chamber of Commerce is telling us to open up and defy orders at this point."

However, Hole in the Wall Barbeque owner Gary Rodgers said he understands Logan's decision to allow indoor dining at her business.

"As a business owner, we make decisions every day based on what we need to do for our business. And I believe that's what she's done," Rodgers said.

Earlier in February, Oregon OSHA fined Along Came Trudy $9,200 for willfully exposing their workers to the virus. However, Logan appealed this citation.

KEZI 9 News reached out to Springfield Chamber of Commerce to understand how the nomination process worked.

Chamber CEO Vonnie Mikkelsen said in a statement: "Our tradition of honoring the tremendous achievements of our business community are founded on a process that remains neutral, allowing our independent selection committee the ability to perform its due diligence in selecting winners."
