DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ) - Danville had its 5th homicide of the year over the weekend. A 43-year-old woman was shot and killed in the 800 block of Buford Street.
Neighbors say this community is usually pretty calm.
“This is really a nice neighborhood and the people here are really good people. Here recently, you haven’t had any trouble on this street,” neighbor Dorsey Jackson said.
Little trouble until early Sunday morning.
“I looked out and saw the police and ambulance and everything,” Jackson said.
He lives just two doors from where the violence took place. Around 3:20 a.m. Sunday, Danville Police were called to a house in the 800 block of Buford Street for a shooting. Police discovered 43-year-old Danville resident Lashanda Deshazo dead from what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
“I really was shocked. I really was shocked because this is a nice street and we haven’t had anything like that to happen here in a long time,” Jackson said.
Deshazo’s body was taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke for an autopsy, while the investigation continues.
“That was a senseless thing that happened,” Jackson said.
