Live Blog: Follow Purdue's Homecoming Game Against Florida Atlantic in Real Time - Sports Illustrated

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue football hosts Florida Atlantic on Saturday night for Homecoming inside Ross-Ade Stadium. The Boilermakers find themselves at 1-2 through the first three weeks of the season and will look to close out their nonconference schedule with a victory.

Purdue failed to close out another tight matchup last week, falling to Syracuse on the road 32-29 after coming back from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter. The Boilermakers gave up a go-ahead touchdown to the Orange with less than a minute to play in the game. 

The team will look to rebound for its second win of the 2022 season before entering the thick of its Big Ten schedule.

10:57 p.m. ET, FINAL — Purdue 28, Florida Atlantic 26

10:53 p.m. ET — N'Kosi Perry is stuffed at the line of scrimmage on a fourth-down QB sneak and fumbles the football. Purdue safety Sanoussi Kane came away with the recovery, and the Boilermakers will be able to run out the clock. 

10:40 p.m. ET — Gain of 13 on the ground for Dylan Downing gives him 107 yards on the night. He's the first 100-yard rusher for Purdue this season. 

10:36 p.m. ET — Florida Atlantic gets into the end zone but fails on the 2-point conversion. Purdue leads 28-26 with 5:21 left in the game. 

10:25 p.m. ET — Purdue takes advantage of Chris Jefferson's interception and cashes in on a four-yard touchdown pass from Austin Burton to TJ Sheffield. The scoring strike capped off a 35-yard drive and gives the Boilermakers a 28-20 lead with 8:01 left in the game. 

10:22 p.m. ET — Purdue picks up a big gain on fourth down to keep its drive alive. Offense now in the red zone. 

10:17 p.m. ET — With Florida Atlantic threatening to take the lead here in the fourth quarter, N'Kosi Perry throws an interception in the red zone to Purdue safety Chris Jefferson. 

His long return sets the Boilermakers up in opposing territory. 

10:09 p.m. ET — Mitchell Fineran unable to connect on a 47-yard field goal attempt for Purdue. His second missed kick of the season. 

10:06 p.m. ET, END Q3 — Purdue 21, Florida Atlantic 20

9:56 p.m. ET — Florida Atlantic didn't take long to find the end zone. N'Kosi Perry and Lajohntay Wester connect for their second touchdown strike of the night. Purdue still ahead 21-20 with 4:35 left in the third quarter. 

9:53 p.m. ET — Austin Burton throws an ill-advised pass into tight coverage, intended for TJ Sheffield. The throw is intercepted, and Florida Atlantic takes over from its own 38-yard line. 

9:44 p.m. ET — Florida Atlantic goes three-and-out for the fourth time tonight. Purdue will take over from its own 30-yard line. 

9:38 p.m. ET — Penalties by Florida Atlantic aid the Purdue offense in a 6-play, 48-yard drive that ends in a 2-yard touchdown run by Dylan Downing. The Boilermakers lead 21-13 with 10:49 left in the third quarter. 

9:27 p.m. ET — Purdue's defense forces a three-and-out to start the second half, and Charlie Jones gets the Boilermakers in opposing territory with a 39-yard punt return. 

9:02 p.m. ET, HALFTIME — Purdue 14, Florida Atlantic 13

The Owls will receive the second-half kickoff. 

8:58 p.m. ET — The scoring drought ends for the Purdue offense as Austin Burton finds Charlie Jones for a 12-yard touchdown, their second scoring connection of the night. The Boilermakers regain the lead, going ahead 14-13 with 18 seconds left before halftime. 

8:50 p.m. ET — Florida Atlantic extends its lead with a 39-yard field goal. Purdue trails 13-7 with 1:23 left to play in the first half. 

8:46 p.m. ET — Purdue runs the ball on four straight plays and fails to get enough yards for a first down, turning the ball over to Florida Atlantic with 3:42 left in the first half. 

Austin Burton hasn't attempted a pass since the 5:17 mark in the first quarter. 

8:43 p.m. ET — Austin Burtin back under center for the Boilermakers. 

8:38 p.m. ET — Florida Atlantic gets into the end zone on a 13-yard touchdown pass from N'Kosi Perry to Lajohntay Wester. The Owls take a 10-7 lead with 5:46 to play in the first half. 

Purdue has just 56 yards in its last three offensive possessions. 

8:25 p.m. ET — Purdue goes three and out, but Jack Ansell kicks a bomb that rolls dead at the 4-yard line — officially 67 yards on the punt. 

8:24 p.m. ET — Michael Alaimo in at quarterback for Purdue. 

8:19 p.m. ET — Florida Atlantic is on the board after a 27-yard field goal goes through the uprights. The Owls scored after a 12 -play, 68-yard drive. Purdue has a 7-3 lead with 13:51 left to play in the half. 

8:16 p.m. ET, END Q1 — Purdue 7, Florida Atlantic 0 

The Owls will face second down from the Boilermakers' 15-yard line to start the second quarter. Austin Burtin is 8-of-11 for 52 yards and a touchdown to Charlie Jones. Dylan Downing leads the team with three carries for 56 yards on the ground.  

8:02 p.m. ET — Purdue defense forces its second straight three and out. Charlie Jones calls for a fair catch at the 10-yard line, and the offense looks to rebound after the early miscue. 

7:58 p.m. ET — Purdue avoided disaster after a fumble by Deion Burks was ruled a forward pass in the backfield, but the team coughed the ball up to Florida Atlantic anyway as Charlie Jones lost the ball on his fifth catch of the game. 

The Owls take over inside Boilermaker territory. 

7:54 p.m. ET — Purdue defense forces Florida Atlantic into a three and out. The Boilermakers take over at their own 13-yard line after the punt. 

7:46 p.m. ET — Purdue marches down the field 77 yards for the opening score. Austin Burton finds his first touchdown pass with the Boilermakers, hitting Charlie Jones from seven yards out. 

Burton was a perfect 6-6 through the air for 34 yards, giving the team an early 7-0 lead over Florida Atlantic with 9:48 left to play in the first quarter. 

KICKOFF — Florida Atlantic won the toss and elected to defer to the second half. Purdue will receive the opening kickoff. Austin Burton is front and center to start the game. 

PREGAME — Purdue starting quarterback Aidan O'Connell is Out vs. Florida Atlantic, and Austin Burtin is likely to start. It would be Burton's second career start after transferring from UCLA back in 2020.
