Dolphins cut Isaiah Wilson after issues continue to follow from Tennessee - The Phinsider

The Isaiah Wilson experiment in South Florida last three days. After sending the Tennessee Titans a 2021 seventh-round draft pick for Wilson and a 2022 seventh-round pick, the Dolphins were hopeful that they could help Wilson mature following a year issues.

According to A to Z Sports Nashville, the litany of issues with Wilson began when he was given a trespass warning by police at Tennessee State University in August for breaking the school’s no-visitors policy. He attempted to jump off a second-story balcony to avoid police in the incident. He then crashed his car into a wall and was charged with DUI in September. He had a second car crash in October. He was suspended by the team for violating team rules in December before being placed on the Non-Football Injury list for “personal issues.”

He was also placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list twice during the season and missed practices throughout the year, with a headache as the most commonly used excuse.

Wilson played three offensive snaps as a rookie.

Within the first three days of his time with the Dolphins, Wilson, according to a report from the Miami Herald’s Adam Beasley, was late to his physical with the team, was late for his team orientation, and skipped two optional workouts to which he had committed. Beasley reports the Dolphins are cutting the tackle.

Videos of Wilson appeared on social media on Friday, including one of him dancing on top of a car. Beasley states the Dolphins were planning to release Wilson prior to the videos and they did not factor into the decision.

All of Wilson’s guaranteed money was voided with his issues in Tennesse, so Miami is not impacted against the salary cap by releasing him.

Clearly, the Dolphins hoped they would be able to assist Wilson in becoming a professional, but they quickly realized he had no interest in that growth. They are making the right move in cutting him before he becomes more of an issue to the team. Hopefully Wilson will soon realize he has to improve his choices before anything catastrophic happens to him or to the people around him, and maybe going from a first-round pick to a player who has three snaps on his NFL career and is already looking like he is headed out of the league will lead to that realization.
