STRUTHERS — Aqua Ohio plans to replace 6,350 linear feet of water main serving customers in the village of Poland and Poland Township.
Construction is expected to begin by March 31 and conclude late in the summer.
“This project is all about improving service reliability,” Jennifer Johnson, Aqua Ohio’s area manager, said in a news release. “The cast iron main we’re replacing was installed in 1944, and it’s reached the end of its useful life."
Crews will replace 6,350 feet of 6-inch and 12-inch pipe, 11 fire hydrants and 14 valves.
Construction will be along Venloe Drive, Edgewater Drive and North Main Street (state Route 170) between Hamilton Avenue and Johnston Place.
Traffic will be maintained, but lane restrictions may be required.
Drivers in the area, especially along North Main Street, are asked to use extra caution as workers will be entering the roadway.
Service is planned to be maintained throughout construction. However, 170 customers will experience short-term interruptions while their services are connected to the new main near the end of the project. Those customers will be notified by Aqua in advance of the planned interruptions.
The cost of the construction is expected to be $830,000.
