Our next weather-make remains on track for Thursday. Not only will this system bring a chance for rain and snow, but also a blast of cold, arctic air for the weekend. Accumulating snow looks likely Thursday morning and early afternoon. Temperatures will fall to and below freezing around 7-9 a.m Thursday morning. This will change our precipitation type from rain to snow.
This will be a quick-moving system and we should see snow wrap up around the evening commute Thursday. The heaviest snowfall is expected to be east of the Mississippi in central and northern Wisconsin. Snowfall totals locally are expected between 2-5".
Rochester: 2-4"
Austin: 2-4"
Albert Lea: 2-3"
Owatonna: 2-3"
Mason City: 2-3"
Wabasha: 3-5"
Winona: 3-5"
La Crosse: 3-5"
Preston: 2-4"
***Higher totals expected along and east of the Mississippi River***
Our coldest temperatures this winter will follow behind the snowfall. High temperatures on Friday will in the single digits with overnight lows falling below 0°. Highs Saturday through Monday could stay below 0° with overnight lows falling to 15-20° below zero.
These cold temperatures will lead to dangerous conditions outside. Wind chills are expected around 25-35° below zero Saturday, Sunday, and Monday mornings. Make sure to take the proper precautions when outside this weekend.
