BLOOMINGTON (Heart of Illinois ABC) - A Heyworth woman surrendered to authorities Thursday on charges that she and her husband harassed a jury in a McLean County domestic violence trial in which she is the alleged victim.
Rosa Toledo, 32, turned herself in Thursday afternoon, said McLean County Sheriff Jon Sandage. Investigators had a warrant for her arrest.
Like her husband, Toledo faces 13 felony charges and one misdemeanor for allegedly yelling at jurors and holding up signs on Tuesday when they came back for a second day of deliberations in her husband’s battery trial.
Prosecutors said Toledo told jurors her husband, Steven Abdullah, was innocent, and that she hit him first. One of the jurors reported Abdullah went so far as to post business cards in a Law and Justice Center elevator.
The judge declared a mistrial in the battery trial, and prosecutors filed new charges against the couple for communicating with the jury.
Abdullah, 31, posted $15,000 cash bail and was released Wednesday from the McLean County Jail. Toledo posted $5,000 bail and was released from jail Thursday.
